Position Title: Plumber

Category: Bargaining Unit

Contract: Trades

Compensation: Insurance, Vacation, Paid Holidays, Sick Days


The following qualifications are considered as guidelines:

  • Served four (4) years in recognized/ credential program
  • Be a Journeyman Plumber
  • At least four (4) years experience in the plumbing trade in a commercial or industrial environment
  • Backflow Certification
  • Hazardous Contamination Certification
  • HVAC Knowledge (Preferred however not Required

 Reports to: Chief of Operations

Job Goal: Work involving the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of all piping and fixtures in the distribution and use of water in any facility in the Youngstown City School District.


  1. All piping for steam distribution and condensate lines. .
  2. Assist maintenance department with updating information in plumbing systems
  3. Repair and replacement of steam traps, boiler repair and some welding, brazing.
  4. Repair and replacement of water lines, toilets, sinks, water coolers, etc.
  5. All water services from main to facility, including water meters
  6. Must be able to function efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Expected to follow safe working practices, obey rules and regulations, and work in a way that maintains the high safety and health standards developed and sanctioned by Youngstown City Schools.
  8. Expected to observe safety and health regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  9. Must be able to work with piping and fixtures in bathrooms, toilets, shower rooms and accessories
  10. Must have own hand tools for the plumbing trade

  1. Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the plumbing trade.
  2. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
  3. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
  4. Ability to read and understand plumbing schematics, drawings, and diagrams
  5. Ability to use the tools and equipment of the plumbing trade
  6. Knowledge of piping involved in all kitchen appliances, fixtures and accessories
  7. Knowledge of all cold and hot circulating water lines
  8. Knowledge of all water services from main to facility, including water meters
  9. Other projects or assignments as directed by Chief of Operations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand up to 8 hours per day; bend, squat, kneel, push/pull for extended periods throughout the work day; operate plumbing repair equipment, including pipe thread machine, etc. The employee must lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, such as ladders, scoffing, piping, etc. Specific vision duties of this job include close vision, including plumbing schematics, drawings, and diagrams, computer screens. Crawling in tunnels on an infrequent basis.

The noise level in the plumbing work environments is relatively normal, but may escalate with the usage of specific equipment and in group settings,

This position requires facility maintenance with time constraints. This position may involve stress as a result of those time sensitive obligations, the responsibility to ensure that laws and regulations are followed, and the demands of maintaining communications with large and diverse publics.
